The Great Indoors Re-creation

Objective:

The objective of this project was to transform a provided image into a functional and accurate floor plan for a client of our company. The task involved analyzing the provided reference image and creating a detailed layout that meets our customer’s specifications, ensuring compliance with local building codes and client requirements.

Scope of Work:

As a Civil Engineering Draftsperson, my responsibilities included:

Utilizing the provided reference image to create a comprehensive floor plan using AutoCAD, with a focus on ensuring detail and accuracy in the layout.

My Role and Contributions:

• Image Analysis: Led the analysis of the reference image to extract critical dimensions and spatial relationships necessary for a functional design. This involved identifying key features to inform the layout effectively.
• Drafting in AutoCAD: Drafted the initial floor plan using AutoCAD, meticulously ensuring all dimensions were accurate and adhered to the design standards. This included:
  • Dimensioning: Applied precise dimensioning techniques to specify lengths and heights accurately within the plan.
  • Layer Management: Utilized layer management effectively to differentiate between various building elements such as walls, doors, and windows, ensuring clarity and organization in the drawings.
  • Symbol Utilization: Incorporated standard architectural symbols for doors, windows, and fixtures to enhance the comprehensibility of the plan.
• Design Consultation: Collaborated with senior engineers and project managers to understand specific client needs and adjustments, translating their feedback into actionable design modifications.
• Code Compliance: Reviewed local building codes and regulations to ensure that the drafted floor plan met all legal requirements, particularly concerning space utilization, safety, and accessibility features.
• Peer Reviews: Participated in peer review sessions to evaluate and critique design drafts, incorporating constructive feedback to improve the overall quality and functionality of the final floor plan.
• Documentation: Compiled detailed documentation of the drafting process, including design rationale and alterations made during revisions. This facilitated clear communication with clients and stakeholders regarding design changes and intentions.
